Children often confuse the tens and ones places, for example, 35 and 53. In this case, it’s important to show that the ones digit lies on the zero of the tens digit.
Using the box, numbers up to 100 can be easily represented.
Example:
The child sets up 3 rows and finds the matching number: 30
The child places the block 5 next to it and finds the matching number: 5
Then, they place the 5 on the 0 of the 30 and say thirty-five.
If the child says fifty-three, you can lift the 5, and they will recognize thirty.
